Filtration media

Filtration is a useful example of why the destination matters. Glass granules need a controlled size distribution, preparation and application-specific assessment before they can be considered as filter media.

Grading is part of the design.

A filtration system may use more than one particle-size fraction. The media specification, filter vessel and operating requirements determine the appropriate layers. There is no single universal “filter grade” that applies to every plant.

Crushing alone is not preparation.

Feedstock selection, cleaning, screening and any specialist treatment must be considered. Proprietary activated glass media involves its own manufacturing process. Ordinary crushed glass should not be described as activated media or certified drinking-water media.

Work backwards from the filter.

Begin with the target application, required water quality, system design and media specification. Then determine whether a local glass stream and proposed processing line can meet those requirements. Sample testing is an important step before committing to production.

A LITTLE MORE DETAIL

Good questions.
Useful answers.

Is all crushed glass suitable for water filtration?

No. Suitability depends on composition, preparation, grading and validation against the application requirements.

Is this activated filter media?

The material shown is an illustrative graded-glass concept. It is not a claim of proprietary activation or water-treatment certification.
